What is a 'browser cache', and how do I clear it?

What is a cache? Each time you visit a website, your computer downloads the pages to your computer from the internet. To save time, the next time you visit this page, your internet browser may save a copy of it on your computer. This is called caching.

How to clear your cache? By deleting the files in your internet cache, your web browser will download the latest copy of the page you're looking at. Simply follow the instructions for your browser below.

Internet Explorer

  1. From the main menu, click Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Click the button Delete Files.
  3. Click OK to confirm you want to delete all temporary internet files.
  4. Click OK on the Internet Options box to close this.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. From the main menu, click Tools > Options.
  2. Select the Privacy button from the top of the page, then click the Cache tab.
  3. Click the Clear Cache Now button and confirm any prompts.
